Morning Rituals

Do you have a morning ritual? I came across a post the other day about someone's morning routine and it got me thinking about how important it is to have a morning routine. It is, after all, the start of your day. There's no denying that being happy and in a good mood is contagious and makes you feel better. I contribute this to my morning routine. We've all walked into work and had that one or 2 co-workers who are always grumpy or complaining about something. Do you ever get to the point where you don't even ask them how their day is because you can't take anymore negativity? Here's what my routine looks like:

I always set my alarm for 30 minutes earlier than I need to so I can start my day with a cup of coffee and quiet time. This gives me time to sit, relax, read and listen to the news and plan out my day. I also enjoy reading what national day it is and try to tie it into that days motivation. Everyone is asleep and there is nothing better then peace and quiet, watching the sunrise and enjoying a cup of coffee to start your day. After this 30 minutes, I usually am exercising. Two times per week I teach 5:30am cycle classes and the rest of the week I head out for a run. During exercise sessions, I increase my heart rate, let go of any stress and anxiety, burn off some crazy calories and keep my heart healthy. I do all of this while my family sleeps. It makes me feel better knowing I am not missing any family time for me time.

After I exercise, I quickly hit the shower and get ready for work. If It's still early enough I catch WCCO morning news while I get ready - they're the best. Steve and the kids rise at about 6:45am and are catching some cartoons and breakfast. I am extremely lucky to have Steve home in the mornings to get the kids fed. They get themselves dressed. I enjoy taking Griffin to school on most days of the week as this 5 minutes in the car is cherised time with him. I kiss him off to school and head into work.

Sunday's are the only mornings I sleep in, usually until 6:30am and have coffee with my husband and kids. We make a big breakfastaa and plan out our day together. I look forward to Sundays every week.

This morning routine has been cherished for years. Basically since having kids. It keeps me in check, it starts my day and most importantly it makes me happy.
